2014-2018 is the 100th anniversary of
World War One. The war in the air has been popularized by Snoopy ("Curse
you, Red Baron!"), and remember as the idealized or "noble" combat in
four years of mind-numbing slaughter. But the true story about the
fighter aircraft and aces is a fascinating tale of technological
achievements and fierce competition for control of the skies. Dana
Lombardy, owner of Lombardy Studios, has appeared on multiple episodes
of The History Channel's "Tales of the Gun" series, and publishes World
War One Illustrated magazine for the non-profit World War One Historical
Association.
